1. INTRODUCTION
Every church, big or small, young or old has been commanded to “Go into all the world” to spread the Gospel. This involves getting messages out there to help the people, getting people to attend special events. The Media department plays a very important role in this using audio, videos, picture and also web media (email, live audio broadcast etc) to achieve this purpose.
There are a lot of things that fall under the broad category of “media”—pod-casting, blogs, email updates, electronic newsletters, web polls, PowerPoint sermons, lights, bulletin designs, flyers, advertisements, music recording, computer maintenance and repair, data projectors, music slides, CD duplication, Internet accounts, telephones, welcome videos, special event videos, sound quality, sermon recording, Twitter account, Facebook account, sermons on YouTube…the list goes on and on.
Putting together a media department is a necessary part of ministering effectively
1.1 THE FUNCTION OF THE MEDIA DEPARTMENT
Ensure that major events are well recorded and documented as (Photograph & video recording).
Liaise with Pastorate to produce effective events.
Liaise with the ICT department to give good and quality projection during service.
Constantly updating the Senior Pastor on new improvement to reach the members by using (Technological Equipment)
This are the steps that are undertaken in the ICT/Media department to propagate the gospel. We continuously ..
1. Connect to the Vision
The main visions of the Ministry are all stated in the RCCG vision statement.
The vision of RCCG CRA Coventry is – TO DISCOVER, TO DEVELOP, TO DISCIPLE. Therefore the first step into developing a vibrant Media department is to take time out to discuss with the Pastor about his vision and aligning the Vision of the department to that of the church.
2. Figure out where we are
There is always a need to evaluate where we are at all times, the resources we have and the volunteers we have. The Media department of the church is continuously growing and there is always room for improvement.
· Volunteers: In order to be able to carry out the various task of the department more smoothly, there is always the need for Volunteers. We are all called by God to work in His vine yard. Volunteers are always welcome to join the department.
· Equipment: With the continuous change in technology and the more requirement for delivery of media, the ICT/Media department is constantly in need for up grades for the already existing equipment or the purchase of new ones. Therefore, there is always the need for the procurement of equipment that can provide the needed tasks.
3. Figure out where we should be
As a department, we need to draw out our vision and objective (Goals), and this should be discussed with the Pastor so as to align with the church vision. Part of the objective could include.
· Serving God with all our heart and might.
· Promote evangelism, Bible teaching and discipleship
· Making sure all necessary information is provided in ways people can understand (Projection, pictures, videos and audios).
· Use the technology available to meet the needs of the church.
· Give good and quality projection during service
· Come up with creative ideas of improving the way media affects reaching out to people around the world.
· Provide materials for people to refer to, this include recording of sermons, live broadcast etc.
Working on these objectives would go a long way in taking us to where we would love to be in the Media department.
4. Figure out what we need
What the Media department need to get to the desired level can be categorized into few points.
· Prayers
· Pastoral support
· Volunteers
· Equipment
Prayers: As a department in the church, we need to continue seeking the face of the Lord as we cannot run the race by ourselves. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:3-4: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds ;). Therefore, we need to pray, so that all will continually go well in the department.
Pastoral Support: The support of the pastorate would really encourage the volunteers in the department. It would also make the procurement of equipment and other needs easier thereby improving the overall performance of the department.
The pastorate would also help draw rules and regulations for the department. This would focus on arrears like disciplinary actions, lateness etc.
Volunteers: The department needs more volunteers to carry out the numerous task of the department. The number of volunteers in the department would determine the arrangement of rota and the way responsibilities are delegated. Volunteers can also bring their expertise/talent into the department, bringing more creative ideas and innovation in areas like management, event planning, technology, photography, graphics etc.
Volunteers would be recruited based on their interest and given 4 weeks (open to suggestion) probation period where their dedication would be observed and they would also be introduced fully to the operational procedures and practices of department
Equipment: To make the Media department a more vibrant one, there are certain equipments that would be needed.
These includes: Projectors, projector stands, CD duplicator, CD printer, Functioning website.
Chapter 3 would give a full breakdown of the equipment and services needed
5. CONCLUSION
As the Bible says in Zech. 4:6 “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit”, says the Lord, We pray that the Lord will crown all our effort with success and draw more souls unto Himself.
All the proposed actions and steps in this proposal are all still open to suggestions and ides.
We as a Media department are looking forward to discussing this plans in more details with the Pastorate as the Lord help us to develop this department.
We know it may take time to get to the desired state, but we would gradually get there as the Lord will permit.
As the saying goes “Rome was not built in a day”.
